Pep Guardiola felt his side lacked a little intensity in their win over Wolves, but said it's understandable given the number of games they've had to play recently

Pep Guardiola praised a job well done as Manchester City remained in touch with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

The champions saw off 10-man Wolves 3-0 on Monday Night Football to close Liverpool's lead back to four points.

"We were solid and didn't give away many chances so it is three points to keep the pressure on the team at the top of the table," Guardiola told Sky Sports.

"We have played a lot of time with 10 against 11 and we should be more aggressive in our attacking play, but we have a lot of matches in our minds and our legs.

"Most teams come here and defend deep and it is not easy, but we did it well and we got a third to take us closer to Liverpool.

"When you have a league campaign, you can drop points. We have incredible numbers so far but we can do even better.

"Of course we weren't in our excellent moments against Leicester and Crystal Palace, but it is normal, and we came back in the games after by creating chances and conceding few."

Gabriel Jesus played an influential role, scoring twice to take his goal tally to seven goal in three appearances this year.

"Everybody wants to do their best but it is important for a striker to score goals and he has got six in the last two matches," Guardiola said of the Brazilian.

City's fifth consecutive victory in all competitions was a fitting tribute to midfielder David Silva.

The Spaniard made his 267th Premier League appearance for Manchester City, overtaking Joe Hart as the club's all-time leading appearance maker.

"No words," Guardiola said when asked to comment on Silva milestone appearance.

"To get these kind of numbers you have to have an incredible mentality and be consistent so he deserves all my respect because it is not easy."
