Daily horse racing tips

  • PUNCHESTOWN - 3.40: Mistergif 6/4 (1.5pts) 4.15: Dancing City 5/2 (NB - 2pts), 4.50: Jasmin De Vaux 13/8 (1pt) & Switch From Diesel 66/1 Each-way (0.5pts), 5.25: Galopin Des Champs 8/11 (NAP - 2pts)
  • ASCOT - 1.40: Maljoom 5/2 (1pt) 2.15: Trueshan & Sweet William combination exacta (1.5pts)

Mistergif

Paul Townend is up on Mistergif for a much weaker race than his last two outings.

The Simon Munir & Isaac Souede-owned horse was fourth to Mystical Power and fifth to Slade Steel in the Top Novices' Hurdle at Aintree and Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival respectively.

He's been beaten by a fair distance in both those races and may well find more success back in Ireland, but crucially in a weaker race.

That form puts him right up there far ahead of the likes of Cleatus Poolaw and East India Express.

The latter of which will hopefully run a big race as he has shown signs of ability but hasn't been able to fully show what he's capable of in his last two runs in defeat.

No Flies On Him is the JP McManus owned horse in the race that are so prevalent in these kinds of festivals.

And on his listed Punchestown form should be up there at a good price each-way, but did struggle on his latest appearance.

Dancing City

It's no easy feat to beat The Jukebox Man who boasts strong form even previous to his last two runs at Cheltenham Festival and Aintree Festival.

Stellar Story just got the better of him at Cheltenham in the Albert Bartlett but Dancing City really improved at Aintree to reverse the form with The Jukebox Man and he stormed on strongly to win by over five lengths in the end.

It's another favourite and pairing of Willie Mullins and Paul Townend in the Mrs J Donnelly colours and he's hard to ignore having won three of his last four.

Jasmin De Vaux & Switch From Diesel

Now we go to the Grade 1 bumper, starring the first and second in the Cheltenham Festival Champion Bumper back in March, Jasmin De Vaux and Romeo Coolio.

Switch From Diesel is one of the few mares in this, given 7lb as a result, who has always been in the top three, battling tenaciously to keep second place at Leopardstown last time out and is a massive price considering.

Jasmin De Vaux has got to be the choice again though despite it being another favourite, another for Willie Mullins and Simon Munir & Isaac Souede, in the hands of Patrick Mullins this time.

He steered the gelding to a great win at Cheltenham to make it 100 trained Cheltenham Festival winners for Mullins, beating Romeo Coolio by nearly two lengths.

It seems he had more to give if he still needed to and battled on well to retain his unbeaten record, which should stay in tact here.

Galopin Des Champs

I can never side against Galopin Des Champs with the way he so often has the superior stamina.

It's always said that the Gold Cup runners/winners go on to lose next time out as he did last year beaten by Fastorslow.

But he wasn't quite right for two races and returned to form in December and has since gone on to be unstoppable.

Winning the Savills Chase, Irish Gold Cup and the Cheltenham Gold Cup in fantastic fashion.

Fastorslow was second to Galopin Des Champs at Leopardstown in February and then unseated J J Slevin in the Gold Cup on his latest run, his first since having a wind op and is tricky to back now.

If you are looking to follow the Gold Cup subsequent form trend, it would have to be Corach Rambler who was last seen in the Grand National but unseated Derek Fox at the first so will still be fresh for this contest.

Maljoom

Really lightly raced five-year-old who has top form in his only five starts to date, four of those coming as a three-year-old.

He was half a length fourth in the St James's Palace Stakes back in June 2022, in a bunched finish over 1m at Royal Ascot.

But wasn't seen again until September 2023 when a disappointing fifth behind Mutasaabeq.

But he was only 3/4 of a length behind Epictetus that day despite the incredibly tough feat of returning for the first time in 472 days.

He faces a much shorter reappearance this time around and comes up against Epictetus yet again making them both close favourites in this small field of five.

Sweet William and Trueshan

It's tough to judge that Long Distance Cup race back in October as it was all Trawlerman and Kyprios who finished a neck between each other but far ahead of the likes of Trueshan, Broome, Sweet William and Coltrane.

That was the first time Sweet William had ever finished out of the top two in his career and at four-years-old in some tough races it seems as though that points to an even better campaign ahead as he can develop into an even better horse at five-years-old.

He was agonisingly second in the Ebor Handicap at York in August before coming second again in the Doncaster Cup Stakes behind the legend Trueshan.

And it has to be between those two to win with Coltrane being concerningly lacking in his last three outings.

Which means the optimal play here has to be the combined exacta or forecast if you can't do the former.
