As far as Christmas periods go they don’t get much tougher than this. Following a 4-0 defeat to a Newcastle side that was a class above, Town now have to try and get something against the teams that currently sit second and third in the Premier League.

Ipswich v Newcastle is always a big fixture thanks to the fact that the great Sir Bobby Robson managed both sides and the two sets of fans have huge affection for him.

I’ve refused to use the term must win in recent times but Town’s situation is getting trickier and trickier with still only one win on the board so far. A trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have conceded by far the most goals in the league with 38, could be just the fixture that Town need to turn things around after three straight defeats.
